Task 1 - Blogger

Digital technology. Honestly, not my strong suit. But I understand the use of it and the importance of it for student learning. It is something that I want to become better at myself and for my students. We are coming into a “paperless world”, where soon most activity done will be done through technology. Knowing how to use digital technology is becoming extremely prevalent around the world and across Australian schools. Being able to effectively incorporate digital pedagogies within the classroom is an essential skill for teachers both new and old. Without these key skills teachers will fall behind with teaching pedagogies and practices, which can have an impact on the students ability to learn. COVID-19 is a great example of this. When the virus hit Australia schools, schools were forced to close and students had no choice but to begin E-learning. For some this type of learning worked, others not so much.

In terms of technical aspects within a classroom, online sites can offer easy ways for teachers and students to connect and share information. It also allows students to investigate, communicate and create using different programs, which can enhance students' learning outcomes. Blogger is a platform created by Google where you can create, write and publish a blog. This platform could be used in a classroom setting for students to use for classwork or assessment.

Throughout this part of the unit I have been using bloggers. As a new user to this program I am finding it hard to use and understand. I’m still learning. I do like the themes section in blogger, it's easy and straightforward to use. simplicity is key for me. By the end of this unit I hope to obtain more knowledge around how to use blogger and further enhance my skills in other areas of digital technology as well.

An aspect in bloggers which I thought could be incorporated into a class lesson was the ability for students to post information on a topic and then have other students give constructive feedback. This is a great digital tool for students to use. It shows peer learning and teaching. This is something I would implement in a class lesson.

I think it's important to mention. Not all students will know how to use a computer let alone work their way through a program. As teachers we must be aware of this and make sure our students know that this is okay. This may be addressed by adjusting the program or have the student complete a digital technology course.

Using bloggers you can share images, links and upload videos. This is something I find great for students. One picture says one thousand words. So incorporating digital media into blog posts is a great tool.

The Guardian,

Bloom's Taxonomy has been the foundation for me to develop a proposed teaching lesson about “the benefits of physical activity on the human body” and linking that with SAMR.

  • Substitute level - Teachers to upload digital copies of information about the “the benefits of physical activity on the human body”. Students are then to log on and read the information provided.

  • Argumentation - From the task above. Students are then to write a response about what they have learned and how they could implement a type of physical activity into their daily routine and post on bloggers allowing teachers to view the response.

  • Modification - with students being competent and successful in the previous two steps, modification occurs. Students are then to begin their assessment about their topic. Using websites to find information and using bloggers to share ideas and ask questions in relation to the subject. Then to create an informative short essay using information gathered to show the class and teacher the importance of physical exercise.

  • Redefinition - this part of SAMR is about bringing everything back together. Students will showcase their critical thinking skills through digital technology. And publish their work for other students to read and give feedback on.

Legal, safety and ethical protocols must be considered whilst using technology. In this case blogger. Students are to apply appropriate protocols when using ICT to safely create, communicate or share information. This can be done through students' privacy settings being in the correct mode. From this, personal information is kept private from any outside sources.
